HOW WE WERE CHOSEN TO HOST THIS "Trip of a Lifetime"

Cruise West was chosen by Travel + Leisure Magazine to host Alonna after she was selected to experience her Trip of a Lifetime.  The trip was a great success, with crew and guests all participating in the filming of the show. The weather was wonderful and wildlife abundant. We were all touched by the experience as this was a chance for us to showcase what we do on every trip, with every guest. Delivering the a trip of a lifetime to each of our guests is our goal and what keeps us coming to work everyday. We are absolutely thrilled that Travel + Leisure chose us and thank Alonna & Lindsay for allowing us to host them on their journey.

ABOUT THE SHOW:

Join Alonna and Lindsay, two Trip of a Lifetime travelers as they experience the ultimate vacation. These lucky people were chosen to go on their trip of a lifetime aboard Cruise West’s Spirit of ’98 into Alaska’s Inside Passage.

Alonna Johnson is a sixth grade math and science teacher, wife, new business owner and wildlife volunteer. Her sister Lindsay admiringly describes Alonna as someone who never takes a break to do something for herself. Alonna’s selflessness is genuine and endearing. Although Alonna had always dreamed of going to Alaska, it would never have occurred to her to apply for A Trip of a Lifetime. It’s a good thing her husband, Chris, heard about the show and nominated her. Alonna's trip is a wonderful Alaska journey you will also be able to experience as the camera crew filmed her adventures for this delightful show.

Alonna is completely devoted to animal protection and dreams of opening or running a wildlife sanctuary someday. In the meantime, Alonna volunteers at Webbed Foot Wildlife, a rescue and rehabilitation center for waterfowl. Her love of animals stems from her childhood. While growing up on a hog farm with her parents Alonna realized that she wanted to protect animals after visiting another farm and noticing that some of the animals were mistreated.

A trip to Alaska for Alonna was not a vacation, but a dream come true as Alaska is inhabited by amazing wildlife and allowed her to pursue the adventure that she craved.

Although Chris wanted to be Alonna’s companion on this journey, a recent shoulder injury rendered him unable to do the activities that the trip would require and he didn’t want to hold his wife back. Lindsay and Alonna are very close and have become closer as they’ve grown older. They are each other’s outdoor companions, especially since Chris’ shoulder injury. Lindsay currently lives with the couple while she is saving money to buy a house. The two had not traveled together as adults and their trip to Alaska was the ultimate bonding experience.
