I am an employee of Cruise West and when I heard we were going to be aquiring two U. S. flagged vessels from Clipper, I couldn't have been happier. Professionally, because it allowed for new and amazing destinations for our alumni to go and personally, because I have never been to most of the places that these two vessels were going. When I was asked to join this sailing, I couldn't have been happier. From the Pacific Northwest, I was thrilled to see a part of the U. S. not only for beauty, but all the wonderful history this part of the U. S. has to offer.
Being in the Sales department, with Cruise West, I have had the great fortune of sailing to most of our current itineraries, so you'd think an ol' "pro" like me wouldn't be filled with anxious delight to see the ship, Nantucket Clipper, and meet our new family (crew).
I pulled up in my shuttle from the airport and without realizing it, my teeth were dry from grinning ear to ear. The crew was so welcoming, the guests seemed relaxed and ready to start their adventure and I couldn't wait to settle into my cabin and get down to the dining room to eat, what I had heard to be, AMAZING food.
Well, I am day three into this glorious cruise and my teeth are still dry from smiling. The ports have been filled with everything I expected, rich history, charm & beauty. This is a world far from where I grew up in Seattle,Washington - from the Plantations, to Savannah's twenty-
one squares (2X2 square blocks of park) every other street corner. It currently is in the mid 80"s, and locals and tourist are out enjoying the day.
I have added three photos of my trip so far - one is from the beautiful Middleton Plantation in Charleston, South Carolina, one of our guest onboard reading on deck while we cruised from Charleston to Beautfort and the last of a male Peacock trying very hard to win the heart of the hens around him.
Julie Smith is a longtime Cruise West employee and a talented photographer. If you've ever taken a look at our printed brochures, you've seen some of Julie's work. Thanks, Julie for contributing to our blog with words & your beautiful images!
